Features - Ones to Watch

Photo of Lisbee Stainton (From MySpace)I get inundated with demo CDs and albums from bands and solo artists who want to get a mention in Freeq. But when it comes to selecting the Ones 2 Watch we are very careful to handpick the crème de la crème.

On a cold Monday morning the only thing that could ease me into another working day was a warm cup of tea , until a CD found its way onto my desk that completely blew me away.

Lisbee Stainton's recently released single titled Red was the first track I heard. It was an unwinding waltz of melodies that instantly grabbed my attention. She tells me: " I wrote Red when I was 16, it's kind of a cheesy song but I was just gazing out of my window looking out at the garden and the words just came to me."

Lisbee has been lucky to work with music producer, Rupert Christie who has worked with artists including Green Day, U2 and Coldplay. After listening to the single I checked out her MySpace page to find a collection of tracks from her first album Firefly. It was like a breath of fresh air to the acoustic genre.

This 20-year-old Londoner has the ability to create a delicious concoction of delightful melodies, lyrics that pull at the heart strings and a spine tingling voice that will keep you reaching for the repeat button.

Currently studying at Goldsmiths University in London, her talents haven't gone unnoticed as she has already bagged a spot on the Radio 2 playlist and has performed in front of 15 thousand people at the 02 arena.

She adds: "Working with Rupert has definitely opened some doors for me. I'm beginning to record my next album with Rupert. All of the material is ready I just need to give it a name."

It was the perfect relaxing wake up call I needed that Monday morning and one that has firmly planted itself into my iPod playlist. I can't wait to hear more from this young artist.
