Imelda May

With a whole lot of attitude and even more sex appeal, Imelda May bursts onto stage looking like a modern day Betty Boop. She launches into Feel Me with vocals so clear and rasping the audience takes a minute to react.

Love Tattoo, the title track from her debut album, gets the packed out Bodega Social moving as the infectious double bass thuds. Her unique sound of rockabilly infused with jazz, blues, skiffle and soul is irresistibly good.

The slower songs, though beautiful, are not as well received by the crowd who, once hyped up, take too long to calm down, prompting angry shhs from her loyal supporters.

This performance has everything, from pitch perfect vocals to the ingenious use of an empty wine bottle as percussion.

May and crew return to Nottingham in March - I can't wait for it!
