"I'm proud of what I've created"
Michael Eavis told Freeq magazine how after watching Muse headline Glastonbury and heading off to Shangri-La for a late night party, he felt 'proud' of what he's achieved with this festival and that the six hours between 10pm and 4am were the 'best six hours' of his life.
Last year he told us it was the 'best Glastonbury ever' but that seems to have been eclipsed by the 40th anniversary celebrations according to the man who matters.
Eavis also explained that the three headline acts for next year have been confirmed and that after Edge played with Muse last night, U2 may well be headlining in three years time.
Michael will be opting to miss the football match today in favour of fulfilling his commitments in the Greenfields area, location of his annual Q&A session although he did question whether anyone will attend in light of it clashing with the big match.
He also paid tribute to the 20,000 plus volunteers who make the festival work each year and explained the event's ongoing support of the local community "I wrote out a cheque to the local village school for £39,000 last year, that's serious money."
Michael spoke of the involvement Billy Bragg has had in developing a concept for Leftfield and the political activism behind it citing himself as a "non-conformist Methodist". At 74, Michael seems to delight more and more each year in being his own man, and with this much power at his fingertips, it's good to see his feet are still firmly on the ground.
