News - Live Music & Gigs

maximo-park2It's official, Maximo Park will be the opening band for Glastonbury Festival and the first group to play the new William Green arena. The guys will play in the new arena on Thursday 25 June at 4pm to around 1,500 fans. Lead singer Paul Smith said: "Glastonbury's still a festival that takes chances, as proven by Jay-Z's triumphant appearance last year, so it's an honour for us to be the first band on, in such intimate surroundings.

"It's also an excuse to hang out and watch loads of brilliant music 'til we play the Other Stage on Saturday!"

Maximo Park will kickstart the festival where a number of other high profile musicians confirmed to play including Blur, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen.

The new arena is named after Michael Eavis' granddad William Green, who first planted crops on the festival site. It will be housed between the Pyramid Stage and the Acoustic Field at Worthy Farm, Pilton in Somerset.
